A tornado tore through parts of Ottawa and Gatineau, Que. on Friday, Sept. 21.
The natural disaster injured two people, leveled buildings and, according to Hydro Ottawa, left more than 85,000 without electricity. The twister touched down in Dunrobin, a rural community in Ottawa’s west end, before moving to the Ottawa River toward Gatineau Park.

High school students across Ontario have walked out of school Friday to protest changes to sex education and Indigenous curriculum. By mid-afternoon Friday, the hashtag WetheStudentsDoNotConsent was trending on Twitter. The effort being called the “March for Our Education” has garnered the attention of students, teachers and staff at more than 100 Ontario high schools. A projected to number of about 40,000 are expected to take part.

More than 100 bodies have been retrieved after a ferry sank on Lake Victoria, Tanzanian state radio reported on Friday, and hundreds more were still feared missing as rescuers searched for survivors from daybreak on the morning after the disaster. The Ferry capsized on Thursday afternoon just a few meters from the dock on Ukerewe, the lake’s biggest island, which is part of Tanzania.
Initial estimates suggested the ferry was carrying more than 300 people.
