(FROM OTTAWA CITIZEN) The Ottawa fire department responded to alarms going off at 6:47 p.m. on Jan. 26 indicating that a fire broke out in the Steacie Building at Carleton University.
The fire happened in one room on the second floor and heavy smoke conditions were visible on the third and fourth floors.
An email was sent out stating that everyone must evacuate the building and the area surrounding while the fire department responded to the hazard at 7:46 p.m.
There were no reported injuries nor was it known that people were in the building when it occurred.

(FROM CBC) Canada’s ambassador to China, John McCallum has been fired by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
No statement was made on the reason for his removal, but he has been in the middle of controversy regarding the extradition request against Meng Wanzhou, an executive from the Huawei company, to the U.S.
McCallum said that if the U.S. and China went through with a deal on Wanzhou’s case, then the two Canadian men being detained in China should be released.

(FROM CTV) Brumadinho dam located in Brazil collapsed on Jan. 25 with 40 people confirmed dead, 23 hospitalized and about 300 are still missing.
Employees of Vale, a Brazilian mining company, were eating lunch when the dam broke on Friday afternoon. Red iron ore waste spread across the state of Minas Gerais.
Helicopters still remained flying around and rescuers laboured through the mud to find any bodies left in the aftermath of the tragedy.
