Thanks to the food banks of the region, victims of the Ottawa-Gatineau tornadoes that occurred on Sept. 21 were able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. Two such organizations that provided support were the Moisson Outaouais food bank and West Carleton Food Access Centre. Food donations were given to the centres by local farmers who wished to support to the families displaced by the storm.

The Canadian Medical Association has withdrawn from the World Medical Association over what they describe as an “ethical breach.” They claim that that the arriving president, Dr. Leonid Eidelman, of the international association plagiarized his inaugural speech. They believe that the president of the association should be held to higher standards, which resulted in the Canadian association requesting his resignation to the assembly. The motion was turned down causing the withdrawal of the CMA.

The death-toll of the Sept. 28 earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia has reached more than 1,700. On top of that, over 5,000 people have been reported missing following the disaster. The majority of the known casualties have been reported to be in the city of Palu.
