Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau was at Ottawa City Hall to answer questions regarding the use of recreational marijuana for off-duty officers. Bordeleau has made it clear that Ottawa police officers that are off-duty will be allowed to use the substance just as long as they are “fit for duty.”

“An individual, an officer, needs to be fit for duty when showing up for work. We have different assessment methods to be able to determine whether that person is fit for duty or not,” said Bordeleau.

The Coalition Avenir Quebec won a majority in Quebec elections on Oct. 1. The CAQ which was led by Francois Legault broke almost a 50-year two-party political rule in Quebec, leaving the Liberals in second and the Parti Quebecois in third. CAQ is a right-leaning, seven-year-old party which was elected for nearly 75 of the province’s 125 ridings.

Contaminated bootleg alcohol has been making its way into Iran killing at least 42 people. According to health ministry spokesman Iraj Harirchi, 16 people had gone blind and 170 had undergone dialysis from trying the contaminated drink with at least 460 people being hospitalized in the past three weeks.

Alcohol has been illegal in Iran since 1979, but Iranian anti-drugs officials believe that 80 million litres of alcohol are smuggled into the country every year.
