Students were drinking their beers and eating their wings Wednesday night seemingly unaware that a night of trivia was planned at The Observatory on Nov. 18.

But as soon as Jeannie Nikolic, the host for the Ob’s first trivia night, asked a Simpsons question, pens and paper appeared in the hands of more than 100 people at the bar.

“It was a lot of fun to be here, this is a really good crowd of people,” said Nikolic.

“There were a few Simpsons fans that I could pick out of the crowd.”

The event started out with a lot of hype, but as the questions got harder and seemed endless, some students began losing interest.

Some questions were:

What is Patty and Selma’s favourite show?

Who says, why, if it isn’t my old friend, Mr. McGreg. With a leg for an arm and an arm for a leg?

Whose glasses does Homer find in the toilet?

People were eating and drinking instead of listening and half the bar left before the last 10 questions.

“It increases my chances of winning,” said Simpsons fan Joe Gagnon of the disappearing crowd.

“I saw 25 seasons of The Simpsons and I’m still not doing so well. It’s harder than you think.”

Nikolic felt that if the school promoted The Simpsons theme more, fans of the show would have come out and stayed until the end.

Baldeep Randhawa, the events programmer for the Students’ Association said he plans on surveying students to get their reactions for the event. He hopes to bring it back in the second semester on a monthly basis.

In the end the Scratchys, the team whom Gagnon was not a part of, won the night and took home four box seats to an Ottawa Senators game.

Answers to the questions above: MacGyver, Dr. Nick and Henry Kissinger.
