Civil engineering students, Trent Bowers and his classmates, Ryan Wilson and Connor Beyer are excited for an upcoming paper plane-making event and they want you to be too.

“This is a fun competition that has been done several times in the past,” said Wislon.

“Although I never attended any of them before, I would like to advertise, to get more people attend the event.”

The competition is a popular event held by civil engineering students at Algonquin as a class project on leadership to help them interact with people.

This year, the paper plane competition will take place on March 21 at 2 p. m. in the ACE building on campus. It is an open event, which means everyone is welcome to attend.

This is one of the easiest group projects in their program and it is worth only 10 per cent of their final grade, said Wilson.

There is a lot of concrete and steel designing in their program, which means all of them can come up with a pretty simple paper airplane design, said Beyer.

During the competition, the engineering students will be the judges as students from different departments come in to participate in making their paper planes. The best paper plane goes to the person with the fastest plane.

“There will be no prizes for the winners because it’s just a fun event,” said Wilson.

But, this would stimulate students to be creative and come up with different designs of paper airplanes.

“It’s all about creativity,” said Beyer.

“We just want students to showcase their creativity.”

The main idea behind this project is to get students to work with people and learn organizational skills. Beyer says that this was initiated as a means to improve their communication and interpersonal skills, and to get them to interact with other students.
