T’was the 2nd night of December, and all throughout the college. Not a creature was studying, not even for knowledge.
It was a joy filled afternoon as Santa Clause stopped by the Students Commons to treat students and children alike to some Christmas cheer and eggnog.
The Student’s Association and Student Support Services held their second annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, where people got to witness the lightning of the tree and sit on Santa’s lap for a photo opportunity.
The SA President Sherline Pieris was in attendance to light the tree alongside the Director of Student Success Services Shelley Styles.
“This is a special time for us because it signifies the end of the term and the beginning of the holiday seasons soon to come,” said Styles. “The lighting of the tree is symbolic of all those things.”
The SA president was also pleased to see the many people gathered to witness the lighting of the tree ceremony. She thanked the students and staff in presence alongside Styles and the Student Success Services for making the project possible.
Santa greeted the people in attendance and with an unwavering smile while one by one people got their picture taken with him.
“I’ve been doing this a long time,” said Santa. “I do private parties, school events and health organizations and I do it all for charity.”
With Santa visiting the college, students had a chance to ask jolly St. Nick what they wanted for Christmas.
“Some want iPods and other neat little things,” said Santa. “But most asked for good marks, and I’ve been telling them to study hard and at this point no partying until the exams are finished, ho ho ho.”
