College students are struggling to make time for physical activities despite the fact that there are still some who take advantage of the facilities provided.

The college offers many types of physical activities that include martial arts, boxing, recreational leagues, Zumba, yoga, the Fitness Zone and varsity teams.

Having such easy access to these resources should make it easier for students to find time, but it still remains an issue for many. Along with time, money is also an issue.

Time and money are the common reasons why students aren’t taking advantage of these facilities.

Some colleges such as Heritage College, provide a gym membership and access to other utilities upon registration to the school.

Emily Shea, a pre-animation and illustration student struggles with time management and fitting fitness into her schedule. She thinks the school should “offer more free trial days” as a way of encouraging physical activity in the school.

“Whether you’re a student or you work, time is the number 1 reason people say they can’t work out,” said Wayne Boucher, fitness and wellness co-ordinator.

Boucher explains how the school reaches out to accommodate other students’ interests and provide them with a healthy lifestyle.

“We tend to be the first thing they give up as soon as they get stressed,” said Boucher.

Not only are the facilities beneficial to your health, they’re also a great opportunity for students to interact with one another and that’s something many other fitness facilities don’t provide.

Boucher discussed the importance of using the activities offered at our school as it can reflect upon your academic performance as well as your physical health.

“It really helps with concentration and destressing,” said Boucher. “All those study hours would be more effective if they took an exercise break in between.”
