Students from select General Arts and Science programs are hosting an event to showcase their portfolios and projects they’ve been working on throughout the year.

The showcase takes place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 17 in the Student Commons. It is being hosted by students and professors from the introduction to concept art, pre-animation and illustration, design studies, introduction to fine art and introduction to music industry arts programs.

“It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to explore the arts but doesn’t know where to begin,” said Rosarii Mooney, coordinator of design studies.

The event will feature many hands-on opportunities to experience what the students have been working on throughout the year, such as live model drawing or demonstrations with the audio software used in the music program.

“The design studies students will have displays up and their portfolio on hand,” said Mooney.

The portfolios are an accumulation of the students work from the year. They are then used in the applications to other college or university programs.

“Generally speaking, the [introduction to concept art, pre-animation and illustration, design studies and introduction to fine art] programs give some necessary skills for students to move on to Bachelor of Applied Arts programs like interior design, interior decorating, graphic design, multi-media web development or photography,” said Mooney.

The college website also names others programs all within a similar field. These include, but aren’t limited to, architectural studies, industrial design and applied museum studies.
