The Thunder came out strong and took their first win against the George Brown Huskies on Oct. 30 after their confidence was shaken from starting the season with a loss,

“The game started off well,” said Thunder guard Emmanuel Kwofie. “Came out with good energy and intensity, we were up after the first.”

There was a lot of pressure on the Thunder going into the game since George Brown had already won their first two games of the season. The first quarter saw the Thunder scoring 20 points against George Brown’s 11.

Head coach Trevor Costello said that the team was nervous going into the game against George Brown after their loss to La Cité.

“The guys weren’t very sure but tonight we played some good (defence),” said Costello. “We added a new guy, Emmanuel Kwofie, who was key for us defensively, and that’s what he’s got to bring for us pushing the ball and playing a little bit better defensively.”

In the second quarter, the Thunder started to run out of gas and in the third, George Brown scored nearly double what Algonquin did.

George Brown managed to close up the score gap that had been at around 10 points for most of the game. But, even with George Brown’s strong third quarter the Thunder still came out ahead with a narrow victory.

The Final Score was 67 – 56 for the Thunder.

“We prepared well for George Brown,” said Costello. “The guys know what’s at stake.”

“They knew George Brown was Two and 0 and we’re 0 and one, but the guys came to play today.”

With this win, as well as their win against Centennial, the Thunder are now first in the Eastern conference and they hope to carry on this win streak.

“It was a good team win, George brown is a tough team,” Said Devin Wilkinson. “We really had to come together as a group to pull out the win; the chemistry is building and we are one step closer to achieving our goals.”
