The Algonquin Thunder women’s soccer team announced Tuesday Jan. 29 at 11:15 a.m. that Dom Oliveri will assume the position of head coach for the upcoming season.
The decision came after weeks of deliberations and an intense interview process with four well-qualified candidates.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to become the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Algonquin College,” said Oliveri in a press release. “The Thunder Women’s soccer program has a tremendous history of success. I look forward to working with the players and to this new challenge.”
Oliveri is currently the head coach for the Ottawa Fury in the United Soccer Leagues W-League. Since his hiring in 2011, he brought the team to an appearance in the finals and to their first ever league championship.
The team also hired an assistant coach to work with Oliveri, hiring Ottawa Fury W-League assistant captain Jasmine Phillips to take on the responsibilities.
Phillips is also experienced with the sport, having played with the University of Maine in the NCAA on scholarship. Following that, she was an assistant coach for Maine in 2009.
More to come.
