This is a plea to all the future restaurant goers. For the past 10 years I’ve been a server and have the shoulder pains to prove it. There are perks and downfalls of being a server and most have to do with the type of people who you are waiting on. For the most part, your server and chef genuinely want you to enjoy your experience. In fact, I have never worked with anyone whose goal was the opposite. Despite this, there are always people who refuse to believe they can’t always get what they want. These people are known as  “the worst.”

One night in particular a man stormed through the restaurant demanding a manager, there wasn’t one that night. The three other female servers and I were trying to figure out what the problem was while he raised his voice.

“I used to really like this place, but now I won’t be coming back! I had to walk two blocks just to eat here!” At his moment I knew this man was the worst.

The restaurant does not have any parking available for guests. Like many other businesses in the city, we rely on street parking.

I apologized that there were no spaces close by and recognized the inconvenience while asking him to please lower his voice and his pointing finger.

Something like parking has absolutely nothing to do with the servers or the chefs that are on staff. While our job is to bring you everything you want, we don’t have the power to invent a parking spot with your name on it.

If your steak is overcooked, that is something we can control and correct. The chefs take these mistakes seriously, and to heart when they’ve got to make you a new one. It’s something no server or chef has set out to accomplish. Please recognize the people facilitating your meal are human and mistakes can happen.

Our job is to bring you everything you ask for, offer suggestions and answer questions regarding any menu item and then some. We’re meant to be pleasant, appreciative and available in an instant.

People need to recognize that dining out is supposed to be fun, interactive and enjoyable.

On behalf of all servers, keep this in mind next time you dine out and don’t be the worst.
