The Faculty Recognition Awards have been held for more than 15 years at Algonquin and encompass all three of its campuses.

They were established to offer an opportunity to the students to voice their opinion and show their appreciation to outstanding members of the faculty. People who made their learning experience better.

Every year this award is given to five faculty members, three from the Woodroffe campus, one from Perth and one from Pembroke.

Don MacRae, manager of the SA, has been in charge of giving these awards and organizing the ceremony in which they’re handed out for the past 15 years.

But he would like to see more participation from the students.

“We try really hard to publicize the event,” stated MacRae. “Some years there’s less participation and some years there’s more.”

Last year the participation was small five teachers winning the award.

“Last year we had 174 forms submitted,” said MacRae. “It’s a wonderful event and it’s the highlight of a teacher’s career to receive an award from their students.”

Voting isn’t only making a difference for the people who win.

“Even people who are nominated for the awards receive a certificateletting them know that they’ve been nominated,” said MacRae “I’ve visited many teacher offices where they have the nomination posted on their wall.”

The ceremony dinner will be held on March 31, while the nomination period closed Feb. 21.
