There could potentially be unclaimed money waiting for you with the help of Algonquin College Students’ Association’s tax service being offered from Feb. 27 to May 1.

“Students aren’t aware if they should file during tax season,” said Students’ Association accounting clerk, Yessica Hondermann. “Even without having an income there are plenty of student deductions to be claimed.”

The Algonquin Students’ Association has four qualified and trained tax experts working in the accounting office. These individuals are responsible for all the handling and processing of income taxes — and maximizing refunds.

The Students’ Association accounting office uses Cantax, a trusted tax software, for all their tax preparation needs. The SA accounting office will go through all income forms, potential deductions and general information that the client provides.

“Having the tax service available directly on campus makes it easier on the students,” said Hondermann. The convenience of this service isn’t the only reason Algonquin has one of the better choices come tax season.

Algonquin students can receive this service for just $35 per return while spouses (non-students) are charged $65 per return. This price is suitable for a student budget and compares well with other tax services provided throughout Ottawa.

All that’s required from students is to book an appointment at the SA main office (E114). A deposit of $10 is required at the time of the booking.

The 30-minute appointments are available on Tuesday and Thursdays only. The main office has a list of files that you should bring to the appointment to ensure you get an appropriate return this tax season.
