A power outage that affected much of west Ottawa and Barrhaven caused the cancellation of Algonquin classes at the Woodroffe Campus today.

There is no evidence that the outage is related to the gun violence that took place earlier in the downtown core.

Students were urged to stay on campus shortly after the outage because traffic lights were inactive. Military students were escorted off campus by armed guards as a precaution, but there was no other information immediately available.

The outage started around 1 p.m. and lasted about an hour.

After power was restored president Cheryl Jensen tweeted out that “Counsellors are at major exits of the College to provide assistance and answer questions if needed.”

The Times will continue to monitor events at Algonquin should they arise.
