“Oooh! Mama forgot to warm up the bath!” yelled Luca Caporale as he exited the frigid water after taking his polar plunge.

The fundraising event was put on by the Ottawa Police Service with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the Special Olympics.
“I’m taking the plunge because my brother competes in the Special Olympics,” says Caporale. “He’s a figure skater and he’s won the gold twice.”

The event coordinator, Inspector John McGetrick, has been involved in raising funds with the Special Olympics for the last five years. He also took the plunge.  “It’s a great cause for special members of our community,” said McGetrick.
