A handful of brand new programs appeared to be drawing a lot of interest at the college’s open house on Jan.17. Among them was the occupational therapist assistant/physiotherapist assistant program.
The program will be offered starting in September 2015. The occupational therapist assistant/physiotherapist assistant program is a two year diploma program, which the program coordinator, Tim Tosh, believes will be a popular new field of study for the college. The program will give students the skills to work in hospital and clinic settings.
“We’re expecting a good enrollment number for the fall,” said Tosh. The medical device reprocessing coordinator and Tosh’s colleague, Kyle Scott, said that the new program is looking to have a class size anywhere from 35 to 45 students.
“There will be a webinar online on Feb. 5 for people to ask questions,” said Tosh.
All of the college’s programs had a representative available for questions and campus tours were being offered all day. Tours of program-specific facilities were also offered for selected programs.
Emergency services such as police foundations and firefighting as well as animation were some of the programs that received the most interest.
“Those are just the types of programs they are; they’ll always be popular because they have a good reputation,” said Cameron Kirkwood, who was a student ambassador at the welcome desk in the Student Commons building. “But the business programs have gotten a lot of attention today, too.”
