Update from Algonquin College President Cheryl Jensen on the Deerfield fire relief:
As of Monday, 65 individuals had reached out to seek the College’s support, with over 40 now safely set up in Residence.
Following Saturday's traumatic fire on Deerfield Drive, any student still requiring help can either drop by the Welcome Centre located on the third floor of the Student Commons or call 613-727-4723 ext. 7200. Employees affected by the fire can also access support via the College’s Employee Assistance Program, available by dialing 1-866-833-7690.
Thank you to all those employees who have reached out to help our students and their colleagues. The number of emails and calls received has been inspiring.
If you would like to lend a hand, the College has identified three immediate ways to get involved.
1. Drop off non-perishable food items or toiletries at the Residence Information Desk or the Students' Association Food Cupboard, located in room C050.
2. Make a cash donation at any of the College’s Ancillary Services locations, including food outlets and the bookstore.
3. Donate clothing or furniture at any Salvation Army location. directly at an Salvation Army Thrift Store locationhttp://www.thriftstore.ca/ottawa/locations or Drop Bin http://www.thriftstore.ca/ottawa/drop-bin-locations.
We are passing on all additional offers of support directly to those affected. Should any member of the Algonquin College community have follow up questions please do not hesitate to ask by emailing us at DeerfieldFireRelief@algonquincollege.com.
