A graduate of the college’s journalism program returned to Algonquin as the field producer for the live taping of the anniversary special of This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Susan Schafer, who graduated in 2010, co-ordinates road segments and sets up interviews, among other things, for the cast of 22 Minutes whenever they travel outside of Halifax. Schafer did her placement at CBC and was lucky enough to stay, first working in news and then working for 22 Minutes for five seasons.
Schafer did the joint journalism program with the University of Ottawa but said she treasured her time at Algonquin.
“In this program I made lifelong friends, something I didn’t get in university, along with placement and practical skills,” said Schafer.
In five years, Schafer says she hopes to be more involved in documentary work.
