After three decades and 11 studio albums, Scottish folk-rock duo Charlie and Craig Reid, known by the stage name The Proclaimers, will be entertaining the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Sept. 25 for a promo tour of their latest studio album Angry Cyclist.

The brothers have been producing music as a pair since 1983.

“We split up our last band and started touring as The Proclaimers, two guys and an acoustic guitar,” said Charlie in an interview with the Algonquin Times Sept. 21, via Skype. “The reaction from the audience was much better.”

Picking their name was a pretty easy decision for them.

“We wanted a strong name and we sat and talked about it for three days, and The Proclaimers was the best one we came up with.”

Their most notable hit that is still played on the radio today and loved by fans all around the world is I’m Gonna Be (500 miles). The song has been used by TV shows like Doctor Who, which used it as a farewell to the Tenth Doctor, portrayed by David Tennant. The song was also remade in 2007 for comic relief a major charity based in the UK.
