Algonquin’s reputation for comedy shows drew another large crowd in the Observatory on Feb. 10 following previous successful shows from Tom Green and Gilbert Gottfried.

“Students are my favourite poor people,” said Mike Harrison, one of the comedians to perform in the Observatory.

The SA typically hosts comedy nights for students on a monthly basis. Baldeep Randhawa, the SA events programmer, said that the SA works with various agencies to attract seasoned comedians to Algonquin.

Many of the chosen comedians are regular performers from Yuk Yuk’s and Just for Laughs.

In recent months Algonquin has hosted more prominent names in comedy. The previous performers include Tom Green and Gilbert Gottfried.

“I definitely think the larger names like Tom Green have helped Algonquin’s reputation and who knows? Maybe next year’s frosh you could get Bill Burr,” said Alex Wood, one of the night’s featured comedians.

Wood said that he performs nearly every night at comedy clubs, bars and colleges. Before he began to fully pursue his comedy career, Wood was a student at the college.

“I went to Algonquin about eight years ago for three months for television broadcasting then in December I got a letter that said, ‘we’ve seen enough’ so I tell people I graduated early,” said Wood.
