A sexual assault charge against the former president of the Algonquin Students Association has been withdrawn. Eli El-Chantiri, who was briefly SA president in spring 2013, pleaded not guilty to the charge laid in April 2013 and a subsequent court appearance on Aug. 6 had the charge “disposed on consent with a common law peace bond,” according to court documents.

A publication ban on the case’s evidence was ordered in June 2013 by the court in order to prevent the identification of the alleged victim. The charge stemmed from an incident at an SA retreat in April 2013 that involved El-Chantiri and another SA director. El-Chantiri, 22, could not be reached for comment.

The peace bond orders El-Chantiri to “keep the peace and is of good behavior” for six months beginning Aug. 6, 2014. He is also ordered to have no direct or indirect communication with the alleged victim. SA president Christina Miller was not available for comment.
