After a tight first and third set, the Thunder women’s volleyball team fell short of a win against Durham on Feb. 7.
The women fought hard from start to finish, ultimately walking away with a disappointing 3-0 loss against the Lords.
The Thunder had some trouble closing their sets, losing 25-23 in the first set and 25-20 in the second.
The women wouldn’t go down without a fight, however, falling short in a very close final set 28-26.
“It really could have gone either way,” said left side, Jori Armishaw. “I’m happy with how we played.”
This positive spirit kept the team motivated throughout the tough game. The girls refused to back down as the score narrowed.
“We didn’t win the big points,” said head coach Everton Senior. “We had three really tight sets, we just have to step up and be ready when those big moments arrive.”
Despite their loss the team played well, getting in some great blocks.
“We had some runs taken out of us by the servers and we missed some passes that could have let us take the set,” said middle, Alix Burkart.
“We just didn’t play the level of game we could have and should have against this good team.”
Senior experimented with new line-ups to prepare the girls for crossover games next week, seeing libero Lauren Baerg play left side and “killing it,” according to Burkart.
“We’re coming together really well,” said right side, Tess Peterson. “We’ve just got to keep the momentum high and we should be able to expect a lot more wins.”
