It was hard not to see the emotion coming from the Algonquin men’s soccer team following their 1-0 loss in the OCAA Final versus Humber.
Up until the 80th minute of the game things were tied up at nil with both teams getting a fair amount of chances.
In the 81st minute Algonquin was called on a foul in their own end, resulting in a penalty kick for Humber.
Humber easily scored on the free kick, and that was all that they needed to book their ticket to Nationals.
“It’s a shame when referees decide games,” said head coach Jimmy Zito.
“It wasn’t really a malicious tackle. Their legs kind of tangled up and unfortunately it led to a penalty which changed the entire game.”
The Thunder close out their season with a second place finish, their first top-three finish in three years.
