Jarrod McNaughton spikes the ball over the net as two defenders attempt to block it. McNaughton led the way with 22 points in the 3-0 Thunder win.

The Thunder men’s volleyball ran away with a decisive victory against the Fleming Knights on Saturday night, winning three straight sets to sweep their final home game of the regular season.

After winning the first set 25-18, the Thunder handily took the second set 25-12, before grinding out the win in the final set, 25-21.

Jarrod McNaughton led the way for the men with 22 points while Thomas Cullingworth chipped in 12 points to go with three aces.

Coach Mohamed Shaheen had good things to say about the effort, but emphasized his focus towards future success.

“It’s a win, I think the guys played a good game,” he said. “Even if there were some drops.”

“The other team was a decent team so we had to respect them, and they played well,” Shaheen said. “Just in minimizing the errors; once we minimize our side of the game, we dominate.”

The 11-4 Thunder were entering the game having earned a hard-fought win against the Canadore Panthers on Friday night, and came out looking to assert their dominance over the 4-10 Knights.

The Thunder now sit tied in third place with Seneca College, and Coach Shaheen has an eye toward climbing the standings with three games remaining in the regular season.

“Hopefully we win the coming three games which could push us into second, but we’ll see how it works,” Shaheen added.

The men’s Thunder have their next game at Georgian College on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
