Firefighters block off the street where a woman was struck by a car near the ACCE-building. According to an eyewitness, the white pickup truck parked itself in oncoming traffic to prevent the woman from being struck again.

A woman was struck by a vehicle outside of the ACCE-building today shortly before 4 p.m.

The incident took place on the corner of Woodroffe Avenue and College Avenue, between the Baseline Station Park and Ride and the ACCE-building. According witness Daniel Millar, the woman was attempting to cross the street without right-of-way when she was struck.

“She got hit by the BMW and was thrown nine feet,” said Millar. “She was moving, but she was bleeding from her head, her legs, arms, she was bleeding everywhere.”

Millar was on his way home when the incident occurred. He said that, after the incident, the driver of the BMW parked in the Park and Ride and was speaking with police.

According to Millar, a GMC truck parked itself at the scene of the incident to block any oncoming traffic from hitting the woman.

Police still had the scene taped off an hour later and two cruisers were on scene.

While Ottawa police was unable to comment on the woman’s condition, their official Twitter account said that she had suffered a “serious injury.”
