Students will have elected a new representative to the Algonquin Board of Governors by April 17. Nominations began March 25 and ended April 3. Campaigning began on April 4 and will end on April 17.
Second-year applied business student Kyrylo Kasyaneko, is the current representative. Kasyaneko said he thinks this is an exciting position and a great opportunity to work with the Algonquin’s executive board and to gain new skills.
“It’s a great way to stay connected to the college,” said Kasyaneko. During his year, Kasyaneko focused on his own connection to the Algonquin community and he learned about the schools governance process.
The board is responsible for the oversight of the college and being a member is a tremendous responsibility said vice-president of finance and administration Duane McNair, and he is a member of the board’s election committee. McNair said the goal of the board is to make sure that the college is delivering on its mission.
“To be a good steward of financial resources,” said McNair.
The student position is for students to have a voice on some of their issues. Past student representatives have brought before the board the discontinuation of Ontario bursaries and overall to help improve the school.
Next year’s representative will be successful if they are engaged with the members and attend all meetings and retreats.Voting for the position will be done online.
