When it comes to Valentine’s Day, the college isn’t showing its most affectionate spirit.

According to multiple AC Hub volunteers and Students’ Association staff, there is not much planned for the upcoming holiday.

“I definitely haven’t seen much,” said Carly Oakman, a first-year human resources student. “The college should offer something not just for couples but some friendly events too for people without plans. Maybe a romcom movie night.”

Why doesn’t the school offer a free movie night for students? Or any event at all?

Although there are no events planned, the campus store located in H-building offers some Valentine’s Day favourites. There, you can find a small variety of cards, chocolate and stuffed animals for sale.

The Savoir Fare located in E-building, will have truffles for sale around the time of Valentine’s Day, made by baking and pastry arts students.

“Although we do not make anything specifically for Valentine’s Day,” said Harsh Singh, school of hospitality and tourism professor, “students do have to make truffles throughout the year, so we try and make them around that time.”

Students can also show their support to the Valentine’s Day bake sale just outside of the registrar’s office, organized and run by students. According to Naz Ali, third-year collaborative nursing student, they will be selling homemade cookies, brownies and cupcakes, as well as candy kabobs, a popcorn machine and red, pink and white cotton candy.

Starbucks located in E-building and Tim Hortons located in A-building, will also offer their annual holiday treats. According to employees, Tim Hortons will have a variety of heart-shaped donuts on sale for the month of February and Starbucks will have different cookies and cake pops.

Other than the fact that there definitely won’t be any lack of holiday treats, there is not much going on. Where’s the love Algonquin?
